At least 16 people have died in a tragic accident on the Ore-Benin expressway, according to the Ondo command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The accident, which occurred on Monday night, also left three individuals injured.
Samuel Ibitoye, the spokesperson for the FRSC Ondo command, reported that the collision involved a Toyota Hiace bus and a truck near the Ajue community.
The crash, which happened at 8 p.m., was attributed to overtaking and excessive speeding, leading to a head-on collision.
“The rescue operation concluded at 11 p.m.,” Ibitoye said.
“The accident involved a Toyota Hiace and a truck. Two passengers managed to escape the tragedy.”
Preliminary investigations suggest that speeding and wrongful overtaking were the primary causes of the collision.
However, a thorough investigation into the exact circumstances of the accident is still ongoing.
Ibitoye urged drivers to exercise caution and adhere to defensive driving practices, highlighting that excessive speed is a significant factor in road accidents across Nigeria.
