The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) election material distribution centre in Okodi Town, Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa State has been attacked and burnt down by yet-to-be-identified gunmen in the wee hours of Saturday.
According to eyewitness accounts, the voting materials meant for Ogbia ward 2, ward 4 and ward 5, all in Ogbia Constituency 2 were burnt at about 3:00 am Saturday morning, depriving electorates in the area of exercising their voting rights.
The Chief Press Secretary to the governor of State, Mr Daniel Alabrah, in a statement said “voting materials for Ogbia wards 2, 3, 4 and 5 under Constituency 2 in Ogbia Local Govt Area of Bayelsa State were carted away and destroyed.
“Gov. Douye Diri strongly condemns the act and urges the Inspector General of Police and Bayelsa Commissioner of Police to restore peace in the area.”
