Three people have been declared missing following a tragic incident that occurred on Thursday, as a boat transporting passengers to a local market in Dampar, Ibi local government area of Taraba State, capsized.
According to an eyewitness, Johnson Agbu, the boat hit a tree submerged in the water, causing the unfortunate mishap.
“Although some passengers have been rescued by the emergency responders, three people are still missing. The search and rescue operation is still ongoing to locate the remaining passengers,” Agbu narrated.
Meanwhile, the Taraba State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, Usman Abdullahi, disclosed that they were yet to receive any official report concerning the incident.
However, Hon. Bala Bako, the Caretaker Committee Chairman for Ibi local government, confirmed the incident and urged the emergency responders to intensify efforts to locate the missing passengers.
“Our hearts go out to the families of those affected by this tragedy, and we implore the rescue team to leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the missing persons are found and brought back to their loved ones,” Bako stated.
