THE Diocese of Ibadan, Anglican Communion has elevated two Reverend Canons as archdeacons charging them to demonstrate elements of humility and transparency in their daily endeavours.
The newly elevated clerics are Joshua Adepoju Adebayo and Dr Oluwatobi Adeyeoluwa.
Speaking during the collation held at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Inalende, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Sunday, 4 June, the bishop of the diocese, the Most Reverend (Dr) Joseph Akinfenwa, tasked the new archdeacons to care for the poor and give priority to the spiritual development of the people, saying that their elevation is an avenue for them to assist people around them.
Akinfenwa tasked them to preach the gospel to all the nooks and crannies of the world in a way that people will understand their messages, adding that their new assignment is critical, saying that the new archdeacons had made viable commitments in preaching the gospel of Christ.
“Leadership is a heavy load. It is light when you move close to Christ. The work cannot be done with their own power but with that of the Holy Ghost,” the bishop said.
“We must be constant with the emerging situation globally. We must be able to tell people what the Holy Spirit had done in their lives. We must relate evangelism in the language the people can understand. We are in a new generation, otherwise, the mission will be meaningless,’’ the bishop said.
While praying for the new administration of President Bola Tinubu and all the states in the country to succeed and take the nation to the promised land, the bishop commended the church leaders for their various contributions to the development of the church and the success of the event.
