The Network of Bayelsa Professionals (NBP) has canvassed support for the governor of the State, Senator Douye Diri in the quest to alleviate the hardships of the people of Bayelsa following the Federal Government’s new increase in the pump price of petroleum.

This came as Governor Diri unveiled over 100 taxi cabs and six luxury buses in Yenagoa as part of his administration’s palliative to boost the transportation sector.

The new transport scheme for the workers, students and the general populace in the state in the bid to reduce their sufferings occasioned by the fresh increase in the pump price of petroleum.

The Bayelsa Network of Professionals, in a reaction to the palliative care, appealed to the people of the state to support the governor in his new move to bring down the difficulties and hardships being inflicted on them by the Federal Government action.

A statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by the Spokesperson of the Professionals, Mr. Deinmobofa Tantua expressed optimism that fuel subsidy removal hardships would be cushioned through the new transport scheme.

The group said the development will also help in creating jobs for the teeming youths in the state as over 100 youths would be engaged as drivers in the intra-state and intra-city transport scheme.

“As concerned professionals, our own is basically to commend the governor for the launch of the transport scheme as it will immensely benefit people of the state, especially the student community.

“Our students at the Niger Delta University in Amassoma, the Federal University, Otuoke and other institutions in the state should now heave a sigh of relief.

“We wish to use this forum to call on our people in Bayelsa for more support for the governor”, it said and noted that the new transport scheme will help to reduce the difficulties experienced since the night ban on tricycles in the state.
