Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) has written to the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) advising the federal government to resume negotiations with organised labour over its proposed nationwide strike.

In the letter dated September 29th, Falana urged dialogue with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the interest of industrial peace.

This follows the ex parte injunction secured by the FG in June restraining labour from embarking on industrial action over fuel price hikes and other issues.

Falana noted that since the court order was obtained, negotiations ought to have been concluded on the matters raised by the NLC and TUC.

While not joining issues on alleged disobedience of court by labour, the senior advocate stressed that talks should resume to avert the looming strike billed to start on October 2nd.

The letter comes as the federal government insists the injunction is still valid and threatens sanctions on labour for strike action.

But Falana argues constructive engagement between both parties remains the best path to resolution and maintenance of industrial harmony.

His intervention highlights the urgent need for the federal government and organized labour to return to the negotiating table just days before the strike deadline.
