Barely twenty-four after President Bola Tinubu sent list of ten nominees for screening and confirmation as Resident Electoral Commissioners, the Senate, on Wednesday, cleared the nominees.

President Tinubu’s letter requesting the screening of the nominees was read on the floor of the Red Chamber on Tuesday by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.

Tinubu in his letter noted that his action seeking for screening of his nominees was “in compliance with the provisions of section 154(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).”

The nominees screened and confirmed on Wednesday included, Mr Etekarnba Umoren (Akwa Ibom); Mr Isah Shaka Ehimeakne (Edo); Mrs Oluwatoyin Babalola (Ekiti); Mr Abubakar Ahmed Ma’ali (Gombe) and Mr Shehu Wahab (Kwara).

Others were: Dr Bunmi Omoseyin Babalola (Lagos), Mr Aminu Kasimi Idris (Nasarawa), Mohammed Abubakar Sadiq (Niger), Dr Anugbum Onioha (Rivers) and Mr Abubakar Fawa Dambo (Zamfara).

The Senate also screened and confirmed Mr Shaakaa Chira as Auditor General of the Federation.

Checks revealed that Tinubu had last October appointed Mr Chira as Auditor General of the Federation to replace

Andrew Onwudili, who had been overseeing the office in acting capacity.
