Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State, has finalised arrangements to host the next edition of the West Africa Universities Games (WAUG).
This announcement was made in a press statement released by the institution’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, and provided to the Nigerian Tribune.
In preparation for the event, the university has commenced efforts to revamp its sports facilities, ensuring a seamless and successful sports festival.
The statement states, “WAUG, scheduled to commence on Friday, December 16, 2023, will see universities from across the West African sub-region competing for medals in various sports disciplines, including tennis, table tennis, basketball, and athletics.”
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has been named the special guest of honour for both the opening and closing ceremonies of the games. The grand finale is set for Friday, December 22, 2023.
