The Primate of the African Church, Most Reverend Julius Abbe, has charged the leadership of the country from the federal to state and local levels to remember the poor as the hardship in the land bites harder since the removal of the subsidy.

He stressed that hunger is much in the land and that it is time drastic action was taken to avert further suffering, just as he charged all and sundry to take a cue from the exemplary life of the late Iyalode Alaba Lawson, who lived for the poor, and helped the younger generation through scholarships and various empowerment.

The primate stated this during his sermon at the funeral and outing service of the Iyalode of Yorubaland and Iyalode of Egbaland, Chief (Mrs) Alaba Lawson, at the African Church, Cathedral of St. James’, Egba Diocese, Ogun Province, Idi-Ape, Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Friday.

“Iyalode Alaba Lawson, who is the Iyajo of this church lived an exceptional life. She stood for the poor. Defended the helpless and God-fearing and very instrumental in the church. She will be greatly missed by all her good works. She has left a good legacy behind and I am sure that she has gone to rest I’m the bosom of the Lord, he added.

Speaking at the service the Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun described the deceased as an illustrious daughter of Ogun State, whom the state is extremely proud of.

According to the governor, she was born in Abeokuta, schooled in the state, went to England for further teaching education, and returned to her country home to impact the lives of the younger generation through Lawson’s Group of Schools.

“It is an event with mixed feelings to witness her funeral service and celebrate the life and times of Iyalode Alaba Lawson. She was an Adire and tie and dye promoter. An advocate of women and passionate about women empowerment. She was God-loving and God’s servant. I can’t thank her enough for the support she gave me in my political journey. On behalf of my family and the entire good people of Ogun State, we celebrate and pray God grants you eternal rest.

The governor also noted that the government will do the needful to sustain the legacy of Iyalode Alaba Lawson.

The event was graced by eminent dignitaries including, former president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, his wife Chief (Mrs) Bola Obasanjo; wife of Ogun State governor, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun; music legend, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi; former Ogun State governor and Senator Ibikunle Amosun; Ambassador Sarafa Ishola; Senator Olanrewaju Tejuoso; Chief Yinka Fasuyi, and veteran gospel musician, Pastor Joseph Adelalaku (aka Baba Ayewa), among other dignitaries.
