A 70-year-old man, identified as Yekeen Alaja, has reportedly been beaten to death at the popular Moniya abbatoir in Akinyele local government area.
Alaja, as reliably gathered, was beaten to death during a heated argument with a 40-year-old man (name withheld) at the market on Thursday.
The incident has thrown the entire community into a mourning mood.
A deceased family member, who preferred anonymity, said, “There was a misunderstanding between the suspect and the victim’s younger brother. So, the suspect went to lodge a complaint with the deceased, who was the head of the family, around the market. Instead of the suspect calmly stating his position, he started raining curses and abusive words. This later led to an argument.
“It was on this premise that the deceased cautioned him. However, instead of maintaining decorum, the suspect bounced back and started punching the deceased until he collapsed.

He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead, and the corpse has been deposited in the morgue,” he explained.
Another witness, who did not want her name in print, told our correspondent that, “The issue wouldn’t have generated controversy if they had listened to other traders who were trying to resolve the matter. Now, it has claimed one life. May God repose his soul.”
