A corps member, Chika Michelle, serving in Makurdi, Benue state capital, has carried out a personal community development project, donating eco-friendly waste disposals worth N2.5 million to some markets in the state.
Chika, with state code BN/ 23B/1713, serving with the Ministry of Works, Housing and Urban Development, Makurdi made the donation of four Eco-friendly aluminum galvanized waste dump containers to four markets across Makurdi town.
The items were donated to High-level, Railway, Wadata and North Bank markets.
The corps member, who is a graduate of Architecture and Environmental Design said she was moved to carry out the project when she observed that waste disposals were lacking in most of the market places, to curb issues of sanitation and hygiene.
She said that the personal CDS programme tagged; ”Revamping Makurdi ” which focuses on waste management is in line with SDG’s goal six and 15 (clean water and sanitation).
Chika also conducted a training workshop at Makurdi International School, with the help of volunteers teaching students on how to transform waste to wealth.
In his remarks, the state Coordinator of NYSC, Benue State, Mr Abe Dankaro Ashumate, appreciated the corps member for her thoughtfulness, and dedication to service;
Represented by the Assistant Director CDS Branch, Mrs Stella Beaulah Gokum, the state coordinator prayed to God to reward her abundantly.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of letters of ownership to the market representatives.
