The Jahun Local Government Primary Health Care (PHC) Manager in Jigawa State, Malam Ghali Iguda, expressed satisfaction with the turnout of pregnant women in the ongoing Insecticide-Treated Mosquito Nets (ITNs) distribution in the area.
The manager disclosed in an interview with Online Tribune in Jahun town that 194,250 ITNs have been allocated for distribution to women and vulnerable individuals in the area.
Malam Ghali Iguda explained that the targeted recipients have been positively responding to the nets collection. He said, “The collection is above our target of 400 people per day at each collection center in the area.”
According to him, “There are some centers where over 500 people collected on the first day. This is because people are aware of the start date and designated collection centers. As of today, the third day, over 50 percent of the nets have been collected.”
He noted that the current frequent rainfalls in the area, which have caused flooding in four political wards, are causing some delays in reaching the collection centers.
Iguda maintained that “in places like Harbor Tsohuwa, Gunka, Gamza, and Idonduna, where there are over 10 villages blocked by flooding, access is difficult.”
“Due to this, we have been forced to use canoes or take different routes, resulting in a very long distance before the commodities can be delivered.”
The PHC manager called on the Jigawa State Malaria Control Booster Program and the Malaria Consortium Program to consider changing the timing of the exercise in the future.
He suggested, “For future exercises, it would be better to conduct them earlier, around the end of May to June, or at the latest, mid-July.”
