In a bid to curb financial irregularities and ensure proper management of public funds, the Kano State Government has ordered the closure of all bank accounts operated by its ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
Governor Abba Yusuf, during a meeting at the Government House on Wednesday, directed that all MDA accounts be consolidated into a single Treasury account.
The decision, according to the governor, was prompted by concerns over financial misconduct observed within various government departments.
“This measure is aimed at streamlining financial processes and eliminating any avenues for corruption,” Governor Yusuf declared.
He issued a stern warning to MDAs that fail to comply with the directive within a week, threatening legal action against non-compliant entities.
Zayyid Abubakar, the Chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS), also addressed the meeting, outlining a new tax collection plan under the unified treasury account system.
Abubakar expressed confidence that the system would enhance revenue generation for the state while curbing the misappropriation of public funds.
Governor Yusuf stated, “The government has taken this step to ensure that funds are managed properly and to eliminate any avenues for financial misconduct.”
Abubakar said, “This system will help increase revenue for Kano State and curb the misappropriation of government funds.”
The meeting was attended by key government officials, including the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Shehu Sagagi, commissioners, heads of MDAs, and representatives from various banks.
