Kwara Poly commiserates with family of ND2 student after mysterious death

The Rector, Kwara State Polytechnic, Engineer Dr. Abdul Jimoh Muhammed, has expressed sadness over the demise of a National Diploma II (ND 2) Electrical Electronic Engineering student, Abdulqoyum Bamidele.

In a statement issued and signed by the spokesperson of the Polytechnic, Mrs Halimat Garba, disclosed that the sad incident allegedly took place on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 around the GRA in Ilorin, the state capital.

According to the statement, the circumstances around the young and promising student’s death is still dicey as there were many unconfirmed stories and narratives around it.

It added that the school management is committed to ensuring that justice is served as appropriate, based on the final reports of the matter.

Engineer Abdul appreciated the students for being calm and not taking laws into their own hands, stressing that, as the investigation unfolds, the Polytechnic community remains resolute in its demand for accountability and justice for Abdulqoyyum.

The Rector also commiserated with the family of the deceased and the entire Polytechnic community on the sad development and prayed that God gives the family, friends, classmates and the entire Polytechnic the strength to bear the huge loss.

Meanwhile, a yet-to-be-confirmed report had it that there was a mild drama on Wednesday when some students that were protesting, blocked Oyun road.

It was also learnt that stones were thrown at policemen, who had come to quell the crisis, while the police reportedly fired a shot that killed a boy on the spot.

In a statement by the Students Union Government (SUG) of the Kwarapoly, signed by the SUG president, Saheed Ishola and the SUG general secretary, Oni Joseph, on Friday, the union urged all students to remain calm and composed.

The statement reads: “We hope this message finds you well. It is with a deep sense of responsibility that we address the recent unfortunate incident involving one of our students and members of the Police Force. We understand the distress this has caused within our community, and we want to reassure you that the Students’ Union Government is fully committed to ensuring that justice prevails.

“Earlier today, we held an extensive meeting with relevant police authorities, which lasted over three hours. Our discussions were productive, and we are working closely with the institution’s management and other key stakeholders to investigate the matter thoroughly.

“As part of our commitment, the management are ready to provide all necessary support to the affected student and their family, and we will not rest until the root cause of this incident is fully uncovered and addressed.

“We strongly urge all students to remain calm and composed during this period. We understand the emotions surrounding this matter, but let’s approach it with the dignity and discipline that defines us as Kwarapolites. Rest assured, we will keep you updated on any developments as they unfold.

In the meantime, if you have any relevant information or concerns regarding the incident, do not hesitate to reach out to the Students’ Union. We are here for you and will continue to advocate for your safety and well being.”
