Today marks ten years since Wizkid dropped his hit single “Ojuelegba” and his sophomore album Ayo, released under Empire Mates Entertainment.
The 19-track album, packed with hits, remains one of the most celebrated projects in Nigerian music history. Ojuelegba played a key role in introducing Afrobeats to a global audience, especially after its remix featuring Skepta and Drake.
To honour this milestone, streaming giant Spotify launched a campaign celebrating the album’s legacy. Fans and media have taken to social media to reminisce, while Ayo continues to be recognised for its impact, including winning Best R&B/Pop Album at the Headies and holding the record for the longest run at number one on iTunes.
In the midst of the celebrations, Wizkid surprised fans by dropping a snippet of his new single, “Piece of My Heart,” featuring Brent Faiyaz, from his upcoming Morayo album.
Fans eagerly await the album, which promises a fresh blend of Caribbean, R&B, Afro-Pop, and dancehall sounds, with Morayo set to drop later this year.
