Suspected Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) insurgents launched a predawn attack on Geidam town on Saturday, leaving one person dead and a trail of destruction.

According to Zagazola Makama, a security analyst based in Lake Chad, intelligence sources disclosed that the attack occurred around 3:30 a.m. when the insurgents stormed the town, unleashing explosives indiscriminately.

Two vehicles belonging to customs officials were torched during the assault. In a disturbing act of desecration, the attackers also set fire to the grave of Khalifah Ayiloma, located in Kolori Ward.

The residence of Dahiru Muhammadu, a 60-year-old night watchman stationed opposite Geidam Polytechnic, was also attacked. Muhammadu sustained a gunshot wound to the neck and was rushed to Geidam Specialist Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

The attack has sparked concerns about the escalating insecurity in the region.
