Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Ododo, has called on Directors of Local Government (DLGs) and Treasurers to adhere to the principles of local government autonomy and maintain high professional standards in their roles.

Governor Ododo made this appeal during an interactive session with the forum of DLGs and Treasurers at the Government House in Lokoja.

Emphasizing their importance as representatives of the government at the grassroots, Governor Ododo encouraged the local government officials to strengthen the relationship between the government and the people through effective administration.

He commended their resilience and productivity, particularly noting the crucial role of Treasurers in maintaining accurate records and upholding transparency and accountability in governance.

Governor Ododo also urged the DLGs to collaborate with Treasurers to address administrative challenges, and he called for unity among officials to support the State Accountant General, Habiba Onumoko, in delivering democratic dividends to the grassroots.

The Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Aliyu Umar, praised Governor Ododo’s commitment to transparency and pledged continued legislative support for the governor’s grassroots initiatives.

In her remarks, the State Accountant General, Habiba Onumoko, lauded Governor Ododo’s efforts in grassroots development, including youth and women empowerment, job creation, and impactful governance. She described him as a humble and impactful leader.

The chairman of the forum of DLGs in Kogi State, Alhaji Aliyu Musa, expressed gratitude to the governor for approving a minimum wage of ₦72,500 for workers and acknowledged the positive impact of the administration’s initiatives on civil servants’ welfare.

He also commended the professionalism of the Accountant General in guiding the state’s financial operations.
