Republican Party candidate in the 2024 US Presidential election, Donald Trump has been increasingly using the slogan ‘Too big to rig’ in the lead-up to Election Day.

With the slogan ‘Too big to rig’, Trump is urging his supporters to vote for him in numbers large enough to “guarantee we win by more than the Margin of Fraud”.

Trump still insists that the 2020 election that he lost to Democrat Joe Biden was marred by widespread fraud.

In the 2024 campaign, he has also falsely accused Democrats of trying to rig the vote.

Trump still falsely maintains that Democrats stole the presidential election in 2020 through voter fraud. However, Trump is now promoting mail-in ballots and voter registration, both of which he criticized Democrats for in 2020, to make his margins ‘Too Big to Rig.’

Trump lost the 2020 election in margins in the thousands in several crucial swing states, but he believes that Democrats cannot “rig” the 2024 election if enough Republicans show up to the ballot box in November. Proven instances of election fraud are rare in U.S. elections.

The ‘Too Big to Rig’ phrase now takes up prime real estate on political signs at Trump’s rallies, a reminder to his fiercely loyal supporters of the importance of voting.

At recent rallies, Trump has taken to demanding that his supporters overcome the “rigging” that he says prompted his loss in 2020 by voting more heavily.

For the most part, it’s just a way for Trump to accomplish two things at once. He wants to reinforce the idea that the 2020 election was somehow ripped away from him and that his supporters need to turn out on election day.

But he also suggests there is a way to overcome the rigging by voting more.

During a rally in Virginia, Trump said, “We want a landslide that is too big to rig. That’s what we need because they’re going to be cheating, and they’re cheaters, and we’re going to be watching them, and we’re going to prosecute.”

He didn’t articulate how this would work. Nor did he do so when he said at a rally in North Carolina that “we have to win so that it’s too big to rig.” How?

Some people argue that “too big to rig” just means that Trump needs enough support to overcome the purported influence of the media, social media companies and other actors accused of unfairly aiding Biden four years ago. That makes more sense, certainly, but also isn’t “rigging.” If you accept that this played a significant role (which you probably shouldn’t), this is, at best, “influencing.”

Trump lost in 2020 because he got too few [votes] to renew [his presidency]. It’s not as catchy, but arguing more directly that he needs people to come out and vote makes a lot more sense than whatever Sidney Powell was talking about.
