The Rector of Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke (OSCOTECH), Dr Samson Adegoke has disclosed that the institution will be convocating 10,800 students comprising of 2021/2022, 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions.
The rector who made this known during a pre-convocation press conference for the 8th combined convocation of the school scheduled for Thursday on Monday, said the overall best-graduating student out of the 10,800, is having 3.91 CGPA.
Adegoke charged all to always support their best brains saying,”They have devoted their time and everything to acquire this. Sadly, winners of the Big Brother Naija program go home with millions of naira, but yet first-class students in the University and Polytechnic are only given handshakes. That is sad.”
The Polytechnic rector argued that Polytechnic graduates were not encouraged by the government, frowned at the development, he described as, unprogressive and charged governments at all levels to invest in Polytechnic education for the country to attain its desired development.
According to him, “government and stakeholders should redirect their priorities towards where the youth can be useful for the country especially, in the area of technology but, it is regretting that our government is not encouraging the Polytechnic graduates. Most of the success we are enjoying today is the work of those who attended technical colleges and institutes.
“We are not putting our priority right in this country and I feel very sad about it. We are not serious about development because when the intellect is treated shabbily, we cannot make the required progress. I think we should redirect our priority towards where our youth can be useful and know this is the way to go.
“If we truly want the development we are craving, the government needs to invest in Polytechnic education,” he concluded
