Kano State Fire Service (KSFS) has confirmed that a fire has killed a husband and wife at Rangaza (Inken) Layin AU, in Ungogo Local Government Area of the State.
The victims are 67-year-old Muhammed Uba and his 52-year-old wife, Fatima Uba.
This was contained in a statement signed and issued by the KSFS Public Relations Officer (PRO), Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, a copy of which was made available to the press in Kano.
The statement was also confirmed by the Director of KSFS, Alhaji Hassan Muhammad, who added that the incident occurred at midnight on Thursday, December 12.
The statement reads: “We received a distress call at about 01:45 a.m. from one of our staff, Ahmad Abubakar, and immediately sent our rescue team to the scene at about 01:51 a.m.”
According to him, it was a bungalow of about 50 by 25 feet used as a dwelling house.
He disclosed that the victims were trapped by the smoke from the fire but were rescued unconscious, with burns in some parts of their bodies.
He, however, added that their corpses were handed over to the ward head of Rangaza in Ungogo Local Government Area, Muhammad Rayyanu.
The agency then advised the general public to comply with safety regulations to avoid unforeseen circumstances.
