New Com­missioner of Police of Riv­ers State, CP Olugbenga Adepojun has pledged zero tolerance to human rights abuses and corruption within the state police command.

He outlined a comprehensive strategy focused on improv­ing the safety, security, and overall well-being of Rivers State and its residents.

Speaking with journalists in his maiden press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Port Harcourt, CP Adepoju, made a commitment to profes­sional policing, urging of­ficers to remain apolitical and prioritize the safety of lives and property.

He said; “As I assume duty, I wish to make it abundantly clear that my priority is to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of all citizens, residents and visitors in Rivers State.

“I’m aware that Rivers State, being one of the nation’s economic hubs, faces unique security challenges. From incidents of kidnapping, cultism, armed robbery, oil bunkering to communal clashes, violent crimes, and more recently crises emanating from political interests, the complexities of maintaining law and order here require a proactive and strategic approach”.

Adepoju high­lighted his key areas of focus to include strengthening intelligence gathering; community policing and public engagement; zero tolerance for corruption and curbing cultism and youth violence.
Others are; combating oil theft and environmental crimes; enhancing response time and police visibility and collaboration with stakeholders; protecting human rights; upholding professionalism and apolitical conduct, among others

He assured Rivers residents that his admin­istration was committed to ensuring their safety and security, stating, “I will ensure Rivers people sleep with their two eyes closed.”
