Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, on Monday, were directed to apologise to the leadership of the party for not consulting with them before setting the impeachment process of former Speaker, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa in motion.

The directive was given by the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) of the Lagos All Progressives Congress (APC) during an emergency meeting with members of the Lagos State House of Assembly at the Lagos House on Monday.

The meeting also had in attendance the state Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and his Deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat.

A member of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) who spoke to Nigerian Tribune in confidence stated that President Bola Tinubu wasn’t pleased with the impeachment move hence his insistence that it be upturned.

Consequently, the source hinted, that the lawmakers were told to write two letters of apology to the President.

The source said, “Members of the GAC directed the lawmakers to write two apology letters to the President. It is obvious that the lawmakers didn’t want Obama reinstated, but the leader has spoken.

“I want to believe that apart from the reasons the president gave, I think he took that decision to avoid plunging the state into crisis. Also, the president directed that the former speaker be reinstated to check the excessiveness of the lawmakers. You know they removed the lawmakers without consulting with the leaders of the party.

“So, they were told to write two apology letters which they did immediately.

“The first letter was to apologise for making the wrong moves of impeaching the speaker without informing the leaders of the party. In the letter, they promised to commute the removal of Obasa to resignation.

“The second letter was written by lawmakers from the Lagos West. In the letter, they resolved to accept Hon. Meranda as the Speaker of the House while disregarding the zoning formula. They expressed their willingness to allow her to complete her session. Out of the 20 lawmakers from the Lagos West, 17 lawmakers signed the letter. So as it stands, Obasa is returning as the speaker of the House.”

Meanwhile, members of the House have reaffirmed their confidence in the leadership of Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda.

The lawmakers pledged their allegiance while also singing praises of the speaker urging her to continue with the task of leading the affairs of the Assembly without any hindrance.
