The management and students of Olashore International School joined the global celebration of World Cancer Day by visiting the Owaloko Palace to enlighten the community on cancer, its symptoms, prevention, and early detection methods.

During the awareness campaign, the school’s health practitioners emphasized the importance of healthy eating habits, particularly the consumption of vegetables and fruits, as key preventive measures against cancer. They advised the community to adopt healthy dietary practices to reduce the risk of developing the disease.

During the session, the staff of Olashore International School engaged the community in an interactive talk on the causes, symptoms, and types of cancer. They emphasized the importance of paying attention to early warning signs such as unexplained weight loss, persistent fatigue, unusual lumps, and changes in the skin. The health practitioners urged the attendees to seek medical attention promptly if any of these symptoms are noticed.

Additionally, practical demonstrations were conducted to illustrate the steps for conducting self-examinations, particularly for breast and testicular cancer. The staff also highlighted the need for regular medical check-ups and routine screenings as critical measures in detecting cancer at an early and treatable stage.

Owaloko in his remarks expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the school management, students, teaching, and non-teaching staff for their thoughtful and impactful visit. He praised their commitment to educating the community on such a vital health issue.

“The enlightenment shared today will go a long way in helping us manage our health. Many of us have family members and loved ones who have been affected by cancer or have even lost their lives to it. This kind of awareness is crucial,” the monarch stated.

He also advised the community to pay attention to the preparation of vegetables, stressing that overcooking them can destroy essential nutrients. “If you are talking about vegetables, they shouldn’t be cooked for 30 minutes on the fire. The nutrients that help protect the body may have been lost by then,” Owaloko explained.

Furthermore, the monarch cautioned against consuming overripe or spoiled fruits, as they could lead to other health complications.

Owaloko urged the organizers to provide more information on cancer screening tests and early detection methods. He specifically highlighted the importance of prostate cancer screening, mentioning the PSA blood test and scans to monitor the growth rate of cancerous cells.

He concluded by appealing to the school and health personnel to continue enlightening the community on cancer prevention and early detection, emphasizing that such knowledge could save many lives.
