A non-governmental organization known as AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) Nigeria has called on couples in the country to promote safe sex to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS.
The call was made by Dr. Echey Ijezie, AHF Nigeria’s Country Program Director, in a statement made available to newsmen while announcing activities to mark this year’s Condom Day, which will be held on February 13, 2025, in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, and other states.

The country director lamented that despite more than one million sexually transmitted infections (STIs) being acquired daily, the World Health Organization has observed a decline in condom use in many parts of the world.
The organization emphasized that ending HIV/AIDS must include prioritizing the prevention of new HIV cases, stating that this can only be achieved by promoting condoms as essential tools.
Ijezie said, **”We’re reminding everyone that using condoms is the best way to prevent HIV, other STIs, and unplanned pregnancies.
“AHF created this day to promote safer sex and make condoms accessible to all. When used correctly, condoms are proven to be effective protection for you and your partner.”**
The organization added that the event will include a road walk involving students of higher institutions, members of civil society organizations, and leaders of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, along with government officials from the State Ministry of Health and the State Agency for the Control of AIDS.
