In a strategic initiative to improve maritime security, Abitto Global Services, a prominent water transport firm, has donated a patrol boat alongside other vital equipment to the Nigerian Navy.
The donation intended to strengthen naval operations and enhance security on the waterways of Cross River State.
The official handover ceremony took place at Abitto Jetty, Marina Resort in Calabar.
During the event, the Managing Director and CEO of Abitto Global Services, Mr. Richard Akinaka, highlighted that the donation reflects the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and a dedication to ensuring safer waterways.
“We are here to donate one of our newly designed swamp boats, complete with its engine and other components, to demonstrate our respect, cooperation and commitment to secure water transportation,” Akinaka stated.
He stressed the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in enhancing maritime security, reaffirming Abitto’s commitment to fostering partnerships that improve water transport and boost economic activities between Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.
The Commander of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Victory, Commodore Ajomabi Oride received the patrol boat on behalf of the Eastern Naval Command and said the donation was a significant enhancement to the Navy’s operational capabilities.
“The Nigerian Navy has the vital task of protecting our country’s maritime interests and ensuring the security of our waterways. NNS Victory is responsible for monitoring the Calabar channel and nearby creeks. Given Abitto’s work in this area, their support through this donation is highly appreciated,” Commodore Oride said.
On behalf of the Chief of the Naval Staff and the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command, he expressed gratitude and urged other businesses in the region to emulate Abitto’s commitment to maritime security initiatives.
“This is a commendable partnership and we encourage other companies to step up and collaborate with the Navy to enhance security and provide safer waters for everyone,” he added.
The donation emphasises the increasing significance of public-private partnerships in maritime security and economic advancement.
The event attracted stakeholders from government, the maritime sector and the business community, underscoring the collective commitment to improving security in the waterways.
