As part of the efforts of the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji to ensure food security in Ekiti state, the government has approved the sum of N1.1 billion for the construction of dormitories across farm clusters in the state.

The Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun in a statement on Wednesday said the approval was part of the decisions reached during the state Executive Council Meeting presided over by the governor.

He disclosed that the administration is committed to encouraging youths in agriculture towards ensuring massive food production and economic development in the state.

The commissioner disclosed that each of the dormitories which is expected to accommodate a maximum of 50 persons will be constructed in five locations of Oke-Ako, Ikere, Emure/Eporo, Iyemero, Aramoko.

According to him,” The approval is part of the unwavering resolve and commitment of the present administration to transform the agriculture sector.

“This administration has taken a giant stride in ensuring that youths interested in agriculture are provided with a conducive and enabling environment to undertake their farming activities.”

He added that the construction projects awarded to three different companies are expected to be completed in one month.

The statement added that the government also approved the sum of N392.7 million for the construction of drenches around the farm clusters in the state.

“Construction of trenches around farm clusters in the State is to prevent soil erosion and undue access by cattle and other animals.

“A key component of Governor Oyebanji’s initiative to revolutionize agriculture towards ensuring food security, empowering farmers and boosting the State economy in Ekiti State is the construction of trenches around different farm clusters.

“The trenches are also expected to prevent flooding and facilitate irrigation, increase crop yields as well as prevent undue access to farmland by cattle and other animals. Locations where the trenches are to be constructed include; Oke-Ako1, Oke-Ako2, Ado, Emure, Aramoko, Ise, Ikere, Gede,” the statement reads.

The government also approved N150 million for the farm mechanisation project, ” to increase productivity, expand cultivated land, promote industrialization and strengthen the market for rural economic growth.”
