The citation for the law is ‘The Female Persons Right of Inheritance of Property Law 2022’.
While congratulating Abia women on the feat, Ikpeazu said his administration would continue to support women.

The governor added that his administration would lean on the side of reason and common sense in the discharge of its obligations to residents, noting that women would no longer be treated as second-class citizens even in their families.
Ikpeazu hailed the state assembly for the courage to pass the bill adding that the female inheritance bill is the most important legislation passed by the state house.
He further described the bill as historic, positively disruptive, and capable of setting society on a path of equal opportunities and sustainable development.
Before now, females in Abia state weren’t allowed to inherit their father’s property, even if they are the next of kin, and even as an only child.
