Nationnewslead reports that The former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs and sacked senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Party, APC, for Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district, Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio is allegedly in distress following president Muhammadu Buhari’s lack of interest in his misfortune and that of the sacked governorship candidate, Akanimo Udofia in the state.
It could be recalled that the duo were sacked by a competent court of law due to the irregularities that made them emerge as the candidates of Senatorial and governorship seats during the primary elections in Akwa Ibom
It was gathered that after the court judgement, Akpabio has been running from pillar to post seeking president Buhari’s intervention to upturn the judgement in their favour but he(Buhari) had remained unconcerned.
An insider source who pleaded anonymity said Akpabio during a discussion with associates over the weekend expressed dismay that after staking his neck to ensure Buhari won convincingly in 2019, he (Buhari) could not assist him in his time of need despite persistent pleas.
He said Buhari’s nonchalant attitude towards their plight may cost the party its victory at the 2023 polls stressing that if at the end of the day nothing was done, he would have no option than to join force with the Young Progressives Party to cause mayhem in Akwa Ibom.
According to our source, “Akpabio said it was sad that Buhari did not have any concern for the victory of the APC in 2023. He chose to be mute over the travails they are going through, even after staking his neck to ensure that he won convincingly.
“He said that he has approached Buhari on several occasions pleading with him to use his veto power to order the Judges handling his case, that of Akan Udofia and other APC in the country but his efforts seem to be in vain as he appears so unconcerned.
“He said that he was together with Rotimi Ameachi but it seemed that Buhari only conceded to only that of Ameachi while others were to face their fate.
“He said that he has collected so much money from Akan Udofia to the Attorney General of the Federation, yet no positive action has been done so, all he gets is promise and time is running.”
Our Source added that Akpabio explained that the Presidential candidate of APC, Bola Tinubu was the only hope for him and that of Akan Udofia to influence the judgement in their favour.
“Akpabio said that Tinubu happens to be the only hope for him and Akan Udofia in Akwa Ibom and that if all hope fail, he has no option to throw his weight behind Senator Bassey Albert and use his cult boys to cause serious havoc in the state till president Buhari wakes up from slumber.” He stressed.
