The Osun Amotekun Corps has successfully apprehended two suspects involved in separate criminal activities, including vehicle theft and burglary, leading to their conviction and sentencing.

The first suspect, Sikiru Raheem, a 30-year-old male, was arrested for the theft of a Ford Jeep worth N7,000,000 (Seven Million Naira). The vehicle, belonging to one Olukokun Morayo, was stolen from the Oke-Onitea area of Osogbo. Following a thorough investigation, Sikiru Raheem confessed to stealing the vehicle with the intent to sell it for N1.5 million. He also admitted that this was not his first offense of such nature.

The second suspect, Azeez Afeez, aged 20, was arrested on February 23, 2025, for committing burglary. Azeez stole several items from a residence, including a standing fan, a torchlight, TV cables, solar radio, a bag of bulbs, wires, MP3 player, and two mobile phones—an MPs and an Itel A33. The total value of the stolen items was estimated at N420,000, with the properties belonging to two different victims, Oyagbile Bose and Mrs. Adebisi Grace. During the investigation, Azeez confessed that he stole the items to sell them and raise money for personal gain, and he also admitted that this was not his first crime.

The arrest of the two suspects followed a distress call received by the Amotekun Corps from the victims. Swift action was taken by the Amotekun personnel, who located and apprehended the offenders at the scene of the crime. The prompt response of the Amotekun officers ensured that both individuals were caught red-handed.

Reacting to the arrests, the Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Dr. Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, confirmed that the suspects were apprehended in different locations in Osogbo after the reports of their criminal activities were received. He stated that the timely intervention of the Amotekun personnel led to the immediate capture of the suspects. Dr. Omoyele further assured that the case files of the criminals would be forwarded to the Attorney General of Osun State for further legal advice and prosecution.

On February 27, 2025, Magistrate Court 2 in Osogbo convicted both suspects following their guilty pleas. Sikiru Raheem was sentenced to a seven-year prison term for stealing the vehicle, while Azeez Afeez was sentenced to two years in prison for the burglary and theft of various items. Both individuals were charged under relevant sections of the Criminal Code of Osun State, including section 390(9) for stealing, section 249 for breaching the peace, and section 412 for burglary.

The case was presented in court by Barrister Oyedele Akintayo, the Prosecuting Counsel representing the Attorney General of Osun State. Chief Magistrate M.A. Olatunji delivered the ruling, emphasizing that the offenders had violated the laws of the state and were thereby subjected to the punishments stipulated by the Criminal Code of Osun State.

The Osun Amotekun Corps urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly, as they continue their commitment to maintaining law and order in the state. The prosecution of these offenders serves as a deterrent to others involved in criminal activities, reaffirming the Corps’ dedication to ensuring a safer environment for all residents of Osun State.
