The Benue chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has elected chairmanship and councillorship candidates for the October 5 local government elections.

This comes barely two weeks after the Austin Agada-led exco announced candidates for the elections, despite the dissolution of his state working committee by the Ganduje-led national working committee.

Caretaker Organising Secretary/Spokesman of the APC Caretaker Committee in the state, James Ornguga, stated that the primaries were hitch-free, noting that 23 chairmanship and 276 councillorship candidates were elected for the forthcoming elections.

According to him, all local governments in the state have concluded their primaries and submitted the results to the caretaker committee.

He commended party members for their peaceful conduct during the primary election.

Ornguga also praised the aspirants for their good behavior during the screening exercise, which took place from September 1 to September 2, 2024.

He said, “The APC is pleased that no form of violence was reported during the process, and those with concerns about the screening exercise have since approached the Barr. Moses Atagher-led Screening Appeal Committee, which has addressed all cases.”

“This paved the way for the immediate commencement of the primary election on September 4, which extended to September 5, 2024, and was completed by 2 pm.”

He added that the Primary Election Appeal Committee has begun sitting to address all petitions arising from the conduct of the primary elections.
