Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) has hailed Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo for constituting the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, ANSIEC, ahead of the conduct of local government elections in the state.
The National President of the Association, Hon Barrister Titus Nnabuike Akpudo, who gave the commendation while briefing Journalists at his office in Awka on Wednesday, said the development was part of the governor’s campaign promises to extend the dividend of democracy to the grassroots.
Recall that Governor Soludo inaugurated the ANSIEC members at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, on Monday.
Magistrate Chinelo Genevieve Osakwe is Chairman of the Commission
Members are Mrs. Bernadine Obande, Barr. Osita Cyril Igbokwe, Sir Chinedu Anthony Nnalue, Mrs. Helen Ifeyinwa Umeh, and Mr. John Emeka Okeke.
Terms of reference of the Commission include to organize, undertake and supervise all elections and matters pertaining to elections to the elective offices in the Local Government Councils in the State, among others.
Speaking further, Barr. Akpudo said the development is worth celebrating, especially for those at the grassroots.
According to him, what governor Chukwuma Soludo has just done is not a surprise to Ndi-Anambra because he has promised during his orth taking ceremony on the 17th March, 2022 that is going to conduct the local government election within two years of his administration.
“Before the federal government directive or Supreme Court Judgement, the governor has been preparing to conduct the local government election. The agenda was already in the pipeline. The election and other electoral campaign promises the governor made to the people are gradually coming to reality.
“It is a welcome development as you all know. The presence of elected local government administration will help address the challenges of unemployment, insecurity and as well curtailed rural-urban migration in the state and the country at large. So, the development is in order, the ASATU boss concluded.
