The Niger Delta Oil and Gas Summit has honored Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, FNSE, with the prestigious “Friend of the Niger Delta Award” in recognition of his exemplary and transparent leadership as Chief Executive of the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC). Komolafe’s leadership has been lauded for its impact on the Nigerian oil and gas sector, particularly in bolstering the confidence of the international community and investors, as well as driving sustainable development in Nigeria’s oil-rich Niger Delta region.
According to the summit organizers, Engr. Komolafe’s administration has achieved notable progress in the execution of critical projects and in fostering trust within the sector. “This award is a testament to Komolafe’s dedication to the sector, which will significantly advance development in the Niger Delta and benefit Nigeria’s broader economy,” the summit group stated.
Hon. uzoka chukwuemeka, the CEO of the summit and other Notable Leaders from various core Niger Delta organizations emphasized Komolafe’s unique leadership qualities in a press interview. “We are proud of Engr. Komolafe’s transparent leadership initiatives. We congratulate him and his team, the leadership at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) under the Group Managing Director, and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for these achievements. This progress in confidence-building among international oil investors will undoubtedly enhance our economy and the well-being of our citizens,” he remarked.
The Niger Delta Oil and Gas Summit has recently intensified efforts to promote a diversified economy with a focus on renewable energy, agriculture, and other ventures as it prepares for a future “beyond oil.” Through seminars and strategic initiatives, the summit engages leaders across the Niger Delta to recognize role models like Komolafe who contribute to the sector’s development and the sustainable growth of the Niger Delta’s environment, people, and economy.

This independent report highlights both achievements and challenges within the region, reinforcing the summit’s commitment to transparency and accountability in governance.
