Bad governance responsible for economic woes, others in Nigeria — Asue Ighodalo

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Edo State, Asue Ighodalo has blamed the economic woes and hardship in the country on past governments and political leaders who according to him never had the interest of the people at heart.

Ighodalo opined that with the abundant resources that abound in Nigeria, the country has no reason to be poor nor lacking in basic amenities, hence, his desire to bring good governance to the people.

He submitted that as a man who loves the people genuinely and has resolved to work for them, Edo State would experience all round growth and development if he is elected as governor of the state.

Ighodalo stated during his ongoing ward to ward campaign visit to the people of Utoka/Iguoshodin, Ekiadolor-Okokhuo/Adolor/Ofunmwengbe Wards, all in Ovia North-East Local Government Area in Edo.

He informed that his ambition was borne out of his desire and resolve to alleviate the suffering from the state as well as using his wide range of expertise to industrialise the state

Addressing party members and supporters at Okada, the administrative headquarters of Ovia North-East Local Government Area, the legal luminary, Ighodalo, assured the people that his administration would rehabilitate and strengthen timber business in the area if elected into office.

He further promised the people that his administration would support cocoa farmers in the state, saying that, “If you love the people, you will make sure you remove suffering and hardship from them.

“The people of Okada are the timber merchants of the world. We will rehabilitate and strengthen our timber business. We are going to complete the bridge project started by Prof. Ambrose Alli’s administration in Okada town.”

At Utoka and Iguosodin Wards, the PDP governorship hopeful said: “We are going to construct the Ovah-Utota road. We will lobby the state house of assembly to approve the project in our budget.

“We are going to revamp the hospital in the area because our interest is the peoples’ welfare.Our desire is to bring more development that will translate to all round growth in the state.

“We are going to make sure that the health facility here (Utoka) is completed so that everybody in these communities will have better welfare services,” he assured.

He advised the people not to vote for the candidate of their political parties for the election, particularly, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), whose party the APC is known for spreading poverty and hunger across the country.

Ighodalo commended the women for their support towards their family despite the harsh economic situation of the country, adding that women are the bedrock of the society.

Addressing the large crowd the beseeched the PDP campaign venue in Oghede and Oduna Wards at Oghede secondary school field, Ighodalo promised to transform Oduna and Oghede communities into plantain exporting areas if elected as governor of Edo State.

The Governorship hopeful who was accompanied by his running mate, Osarodion Ogie, the state PDP Chairman, Dr Tony Aziegbemi, and the Director-General of his campaign council, Hon. Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, promised to see to the actualisation of the proposed Gelegele Port.

He said: “We are going to fulfill all our promises to you and we will not fail in anyone. You should keep trusting us. We are going to consolidate on the good legacy and people-oriented projects of the current administration in Edo State.

“We are going to see the to actualisation of the gelegele port because All the approvals and documentations for the gelegele port has been gotten. When completed, the port will boast our economy base and enhance employment in the state.”
