The newly constituted Parliament of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN), Bauchi State chapter, was formally inaugurated on Saturday with a call for members to shun violence in all its forms.
The inauguration took place at the Conference Hall of BIC, Bauchi, led by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Comrade Mohammed Sani Hassan. During the ceremony, Comrade Rt Hon Sani Danaudi Mohammed was installed as the new Speaker.
In his address before the swearing-in, Mohammed Sani Hassan urged the new parliamentarians to follow the example set by their predecessors and strive to exceed their achievements. He emphasised that the core objective of YAN is the positive mobilisation of youth for a better Nigeria, asserting that it is crucial for youths to fulfil their responsibilities to ensure the country’s success.
The Chairman of the BoT expressed confidence in the new Speaker’s ability to advance the state chapter of YAN, citing his strong background as a comrade and educated individual.
The immediate past Speaker, Rt Hon. Alhaseeno Adam, cautioned the new leadership against engaging in partisan politics, noting that YAN members hold diverse political interests and ideologies. He stressed that the Parliament has the power to address issues of national interest, particularly those affecting the well-being of youths, and make decisions to address these issues.
In his acceptance speech, the new Speaker, Rt Hon Sani Danaudi Mohammed, thanked his colleagues for their trust and vowed not to disappoint. He committed to leading by example, emphasising that leadership involves effectively and responsibly fulfilling one’s duties.
The new speaker called for the cooperation and support of all members, highlighting that leadership should be a collective effort. He also announced plans to collaborate with other parliaments in the North East subregion to create strong synergies and advance regional progress.
Danaudi Sani urged parliamentarians to remain attuned to their constituencies’ needs to guide their discussions and decisions. He concluded by assuring that the Parliament would immediately commence its work, stating, “There is no time to waste. We must hit the ground running.”
