The Bayelsa State government has announced the passing of Elizabeth Bidei, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, who died on Monday, December 30, 2024.
The cause of her death has not yet been disclosed.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Information, Orientation, and Strategy, Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, expressed the state government’s heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, particularly her widower, Chief Jackson Bidei, and their children.
“The state government and the people of Bayelsa are deeply saddened by her passing. Our hearts go out to Chief Jackson Bidei and the children during this incredibly difficult time,” Koku-Obiyai said.
Mrs Bidei was remembered as a dedicated public servant and loyal party member who worked relentlessly to promote the welfare and empowerment of women in Bayelsa.
Koku-Obiyai further stated, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as they navigate this profound loss. Mrs. Bidei’s impact on our state and its people will forever be remembered. Her life and work have left an indelible mark.”
The statement highlighted that her legacy would endure through the many lives she touched and the numerous initiatives she championed throughout her career.
“The governor and the entire Bayelsa State government are grieving her loss. We will miss her wise counsel and unwavering commitment to the development of our state. She will always be remembered as a true servant of the people and a champion of women’s empowerment,” Koku-Obiyai concluded.
