Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB)has commenced a Computer-Based Test (CBT) for the recruitment of teachers into the State’s Basic Education Schools.
The CBT recruitment exercise commenced on Monday in Makurdi with over 74,000 applicants competing for over 9,000 teaching positions under the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
While monitoring the exercise, the Executive Chairman, Benue SUBEB, Dr. Grace Adagba, emphasized that the CBT ensures transparency, providing real-time results while also enhancing the applicants’ computer skills.
Benue SUBEB has allocated 29 days for the CBT exercise which commenced on Monday 23rd September and will end 28th October 2024. This is to ensure over 74,000 applicants who have met the requirements have the opportunity to compete for the over 9,000 available teaching positions.
In a statement by the SUBEB information officer, Emmanuella Akese, the chairman noted, “The process is seamless, there’s good network for the CBT process. The scores are displayed on the screen for the applicants to see, and the process is peaceful. Invigilators guide applicants through the CBT process, power supply is stable, and light refreshments are provided. The process is transparent.”
The State Coordinator of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Mr. Idzi Baba Emmanuel, praised the Benue State government for adopting the CBT method adding that the system would eliminate favoritism and ensure that only the most qualified teachers are recruited, benefiting the learners in public schools.
The Chief Medical Director, Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Stephen Hwande, in company of the SUBEB boss on monitoring of the exercise, expressed satisfaction with the CBT process.
He commended the recruitment process and applauded the state Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Alia, for his outstanding achievements in his first tenure, particularly the decision to employ over 9,000 teachers.
Dr. Hwande emphasized that the recruitment process, which displays results immediately after submission, is a step toward a brighter future for the Benue child.
Director, Digital Resource Centre SUBEB, Dr Karim Usman highlighted the organised nature of the test, where applicants received orientation before commencing the examination, stating that, the test was going on smoothly with steady power supply and adequate facilities.
Applicants in their separate comments, Terdoo Akpanka, Queen Facii and Senen Akombo lauded the process as being simple to navigate.
In company of the Executive Chairman for the CBT monitoring were: Permanent Board Members, Mr Paul Ebe, Mr Mathias Okpe, Prince Andy Uwouku, and Board Secretary Dr Joseph Jande. Directors present were: Director Administration and Supply, Mrs Juliana Agbo and Director Quality Assurance Mr Hilejime Joel.
