In a tragic incident in north-western Bosnia, a caretaker at a secondary school opened fire on staff members, killing three before attempting to take his own life.

The gunman, who is now in critical condition at a hospital, targeted the school’s dean, secretary, and an English teacher during a school committee meeting.

The shooting occurred during Bosnia’s summer holiday period, with police receiving reports of the attack at around 10:00 local time.

Initial reports from local media suggest that the shooter used an automatic rifle in the attack. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear as police investigate.

Police spokesman for the region, Adnan Beganovic, told reporters the shooter had tried to take his own life and was seriously injured.

Police did not elaborate on whether there was a motive, but reports by Bosnian media suggest the employee had been suspended and fired shots during a school committee meeting.
