Following the condolence visit by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to the family of the late Hajia Dada Habi Yar’Adua, elder statesman Edwin Clark has called on him to practice politics with heightened morality and integrity.
In his tribute to the matriarch of the Yar’Adua family—comprising notable figures such as the late Maj. Gen. Shehu Musa Yar’Adua and former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua—Clark expressed concerns about the sincerity of condolences offered by some political figures.

Clark recalled Atiku’s visit to the Yar’Adua family home in Katsina during his 2007 presidential campaign, noting it as a gesture of respect for his longstanding association with the family, despite political rivalries.

However, Clark criticized the PDP chieftain for his actions after Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s election victory. He pointed out that Atiku, despite calls to set aside political differences and honor the Yar’Adua family, chose to pursue legal challenges against the election results. Clark views this move as inconsistent with the respect previously shown.
As Atiku mourns Hajia Yar’Adua, Clark has expressed skepticism about his motives, urging him to reflect on the values of respect and integrity. He emphasized that political leaders should prioritize the well-being of Nigerians over personal ambitions.
“As an elder statesman, I urge Atiku Abubakar to practice politics with a clear conscience. Leaders must prioritize the nation’s interests above their personal desires,” Clark stated.
