Over 1,000 individuals in Ibadan, Oyo State, benefited from a recent community outreach program organized by Common Person Relief (CPR), a United States-based non-governmental organization.
On January 14, the self-funded program, which took place across four locations – Seriki Sabo, Tabitha Homes, Government College Ibadan, and Oni & Son Memorial Hospital – provided essential support to vulnerable groups, including underprivileged individuals and families experiencing food insecurity and limited access to healthcare resources.
As Nigeria grapples with one of the highest poverty rates in the world, with over 82 million people living on less than $1 per day, the need for intervention has never been more pressing. Over the past few years, the skyrocketing cost of living and food insecurity has left many families struggling to survive.
In response to this growing crisis, Common Person Relief launched its outreach program in vulnerable communities of Ibadan. The outreach had thirty-two volunteers who participated in distributing 1,000 cooked food packages and 70 raw food items.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for this support, citing the positive impact on their communities. For them, this was more than just a meal – it was a reminder that they were not forgotten.
“This outreach has truly made a difference in our community,” said one beneficiary. “The food and support we received were much needed.”
Another beneficiary thanked the organizers for “lifting the weight” off their shoulders and giving them the chance of hope again.
The sports team of Government College Ibadan also received a donation of 24 school jerseys.
Obafemi NPJ, the founder of Common Person Relief, believes that everyone deserves equal access to essential needs and has resolved to help those in dire need through several initiatives of the organization which include economic empowerment, feeding programs, free education for children in need, health awareness, vocational training, and emergency relief programs. The goal of the organization is to create sustainable solutions that bring hope, dignity, and opportunity to those who need it the most across Africa.
Looking ahead, Common Person Relief plans to establish partnerships with more organizations and host a food drive for underprivileged families during festive seasons.
The organization’s recent program has been lauded for its positive impact on the marginalized communities, demonstrating the power of kindness and compassion in making a difference in the lives of others.
