Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan will today rule on the bail applications of ex-Queen Naomi Silekunola, Alhaji Oriyomi Hazmat, and Abdulahi Fasasi filed by their respective counsel.
The suspects are on trial for their roles in the stampede that culminated in the death of 35 children, including males and females, at Islamic High School, Basorun, Ibadan.
The Prosecuting Counsel and the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abiodun Aikomo, had in his argument opposed the bail application, arguing that nothing is exceptional in the case as presented by the defence counsel.
However, defence counsel Adekunle Sobaloju (SAN) representing Alhaji Oriyomi Hazmat, Alhaji Musibau Adetunmbi (SAN) representing ex-Queen Naomi, and Alhaji Waheed Olajide argued that the Magistrate Court lacks jurisdiction to entertain the case.
Also, it was argued that the suspects are being held in prison custody unconstitutionally.
The Presiding Judge, Justice K B., having listened to the argument of both sides, adjourned the ruling on the bail application till Monday (today).
