THE management of the Nigerian Breweries Plc has said the company remains unwavering in its determination to contribute its quota to the nation’s educational development, as it unveiled the Maltina Teacher of The Year (MToY) 2024, Esomnofu Chidiebube Ifechukwu, of Crown Grace School, Mararaba, Nassarawa State.

Speaking at the event, the 10th in the series,  over the weekend, in Lagos,  the Managing Director, NB Plc, Hans Essaadi, explained that the need to reward and celebrate Nigerian teachers, for their daily sacrifices, toils and efforts at shaping the minds of future leaders, has been the driving force of the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund’s mission to champion the cause of teachers through the MToY competition.

He expressed the delight that the Fund, set up with the sum of N100million, in 1994, has continued to make positive impact in the lives of teachers and the practice.

The NB PLc boss added that organisers increased the cash prizes for the winning categories in this year’s edition, with the star winner winning N10m, instead of the N5m cash of the past editions,  as a way of reiterating the company’s commitment to supporting education, empowering Nigerian teachers, and making the 10th edition of the competition unique.

Also speaking at the event, the company’s Corporate Affairs Director, Sade Morgan,  expressed the company’s delight at the increasing acceptance of the competition among teachers and stakeholders in the nation’s education sector.

She stated that the competition, which had, in the past nine editions,  rewarded 241 teachers, received a huge boost this year, as 1,477 teachers submitted entries, out of which the organisers recorded a total of 1,300 valid entries.

Besides, one of the uniqueness of this year’s edition, Morgan added, was the very keen contest witnessed all through the competition.

“Unlike in the past, what we ended up having in this year’s edition, were the top 11 teachers,  before this final event, instead of the top ten of the past editions because we had a tie among two of the participants,” she stated.
