The need for greater unity, cooperation, and mutual trust among the diverse ethnic nationalities in Nigeria has been advocated.
According to the Iyase (the traditional prime minister) of the Ogwashi-Uku kingdom in Delta State, High Chief Mike Nwaukoni, in his goodwill message to Nigerians to usher in 2025, with the abundant mineral resources in different geopolitical regions, all hands must be on deck for proper harnessing of the nation’s wealth to the advantage of the greatest number of Nigerians.
The business mogul also enjoined Nigerians to be each other’s keepers and imbibe the virtue of peaceful coexistence wherever they live, even as he called for increased dialogue among Nigerians on areas of disagreement for the common good of the country.
Chief Nwaukoni implored the people to see themselves first as Nigerians, adding that the overriding interest of the nation should always take precedence over ethnic, religious, cultural, and other narrow primordial considerations.
On the current living conditions of Nigerians, he urged the federal and sub-national governments to fashion out measures to mitigate the negative effects of economic policies, saying that the people were passing through difficult times.
The Iyase, however, expressed optimism that the situation could get better in the foreseeable future, admonishing Nigerians to persevere and believe in their own ability to surmount life challenges and experiences.
He also enjoined the federal and state authorities to address the hydra-headed security challenges bedevilling the country to enable Nigerians to breathe fresh air and turn a new chapter of life in the new year.
He emphasised the urgent need for government at all levels to, as a matter of necessity, always consider the interest of the masses in policy formulation and execution because, as he puts it, policies should be geared towards impacting positively on the lives of Nigerians and not the other way around.
