A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano state, Alhaji (Dr) Ilyasu Musa Kwankwaso, has called on New Nigeria People Party (NNPP) members to wait for the outcome of the suit the party filed before the Supreme Court and to stop creating unnecessary tension through allegedly sponsored protests.
According to him, “Right from the ruling of the governorship election that sacked the incumbent governor of the state, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, and declared the governorship candidate of APC, Alhaji Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the NNPP has mounted a series of propaganda to whip up sentiment and cause confusion.”
Aside from the party in power, which did not allow the teeming masses to have a rest again after demolishing their billion-dollar property in an illegal way, they kept sponsoring innocent youths to cause tension and untold hardship,” he said.
Dr. Kwankwaso disclosed this to the press on Wednesday while responding to questions from newsmen on the recent tension in Kano following patches of protests by members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement over the Appeal Court verdict sacking Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
He said that the teeming masses cannot be cajoled by protests sponsored by the party in power because they believe that Allah has given the mandate to Dr. Gawuna, who in no distant time, would be sworn in as a truly democratically elected governor of the state.
He described the protests as staged and a deliberate attempt to create tension in the state and make it look like all is not well.
“The people of Kano are with APC and with Gawuna and Ganduje. We won our election, and the court detected the invalid votes, so we are the ones having the mandate.
“All the protests being staged are all fake and with the deliberate intention of heating the polity and creating tension where there is none.
“Everyone is going about his daily business except those paid crowds trying to create tension. After all, who will come out to protest because the court has sacked Abba, after demolishing their property?
“This is just a sign that the end has come for them, that is why they are all over the place trying to create unnecessary tension,” he stated.
However, a staunch member of the NNPP, Alhaji Mohammad Inuwa, said the people have the right to stage a peaceful protest on any issue bothering their minds.
The only thing is that the Nigeria Police have to provide adequate protection for the protesters so that their peaceful protest would not be hijacked.
He added that the sacking of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, the state governor by both the governorship election tribunal and that of the Appeal, to many people had a hidden agenda.
Therefore, if the masses decide to express their views on any issue they are not happy with, is there a crime in that?
