The President of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) of Nigeria, Mallam Ahmed Ladan Gobir, has charged 613 newly inducted members of the institute to always avail themselves of every opportunity to enhance their capacity, while also embracing data and technology in their decision-making to enhance their professional careers.
The CIPM boss gave the charge at the institute’s 57th Induction Ceremony, tagged: ‘Strategic Decision-Making Through People Analytics’, held in Lagos.
While congratulating the inductees on their accomplishments, Mallam Gobir asked them to see their new status, as qualified members of the institute, as an opportunity to make a huge difference in society since Human Resources (HR) Practice is about people management.
While charging the inductees on the need to continue to work hard, and be diligent in carrying out their duties, the CIPM boss noted that many of the established names in the profession today, rose through the ranks, by constantly giving the practice their best shot and engaging in human capacity development that enabled them to make such name for themselves in the practice.
He also stressed the need for them to embrace technology and data in driving their operations, and arriving at their decisions; noting that the practice had evolved from what it used to be in the past, adding that any HR professional desirous of being relevant in the constantly-evolving space must be ready to leverage the different opportunities provided by the advent of those technologies.
“What we, as HR professionals, must know today is that the practice has evolved, and practitioners need to embrace technology and make maximum use of data in driving their operations and arriving at decisions. Practising HR, without data, today, is like one driving with his two eyes closed,” he stated.
Mallam Gobir disclosed that the 613 new inductees were being admitted, having fulfilled the requirements of the institute’s statute, and found worthy in knowledge and character.
While 43 of the inductees, were awarded the institute’s Full Members status, 257 were inducted as Associates, through the HR Practitioners’ route, and 313 were also inducted as Associates, through the Professional Examination Route.
