Bayelsa State governor, Douye Diri, has commended the Nigerian Police and the Bayelsa State Command for their efforts in ensuring peace and security in the state.
Diri gave the commendation on Monday while decorating five newly promoted police officers at his office in the Government House, Yenagoa.
The officers promoted were Sylvester Eseimokumo Ebakumo, who was elevated from Superintendent of Police (SP) to Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP); and Ifidi Ebitimi, who was promoted from Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) to Superintendent of Police (SP).
Others were Mohammed Yusuf, Musa Mohammed and Udonne Emmanuel, all promoted from Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).
Diri congratulated the newly-promoted officers and urged them to view their promotions as a call to higher service.
He also lauded the Commissioner of Police, Francis Idu, and other officers of the command for their collaboration with the state government, which had contributed to maintaining peace and stability in Bayelsa.
“I want to take this opportunity to express our appreciation to both senior and junior officers for all they do to contribute to the peace, security and stability of the state and Nigeria as a whole.
“We are happy about your elevation because you have dutifully conducted yourselves in the service of this state and Nigeria,” he said.
He encouraged the officers to continue serving diligently and expressed optimism that they will reach the pinnacle of their profession.
The Commissioner of Police was represented at the ceremony by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration and Operations), Ofem Arikpo.
