Tragedy struck on Saturday evening in the Obaagun community of the Ifelodun local government area in Osun State when a truck fatally crushed a young boy who was buying fuel for his father at a filling station in the town.

The driver of the truck narrowly escaped a lynching by an irate mob that went into a frenzy upon discovering that the boy had been killed by him.

However, the prompt intervention of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) saved the driver from being harmed by the angry residents seeking vengeance.

A middle-aged man named Adebisi, who was present at the scene, explained that the driver’s reckless driving caused the boy’s untimely death.

He stated, “The truck was coming from the Ikirun axis, heading towards a quarry in Obaagun. The boy was on his way to buy fuel for his father when he was hit. The driver attempted to flee, but angry residents pursued and apprehended him.”

Kehinde Adeleke, the Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC Osun Command, confirmed the incident.

She noted that the driver would likely have been killed if not for the quick action of NSCDC officers who intervened.

Adeleke also reported, “The driver has since been handed over to the Nigeria Police, Ifelodun Division, for further investigation, while the boy has already been buried. Normalcy has returned to the area, but it was a deeply sorrowful incident.
