Ebonyi: PDP repositioning to wrest power from APC, Chieftain declares

Chief Boniface Igwe, a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at the weekend said that the party was committed to strengthening of the rule of law and democracy in Nigeria.

Igwe spoke at a press briefing stressing that PDP was founded on the principles of rule of law and maintained that the party would come out stronger and more formidable from its present leadership crisis.

He commended the recent South-East stakeholders meeting with the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) held at the national Secretariat where the crisis rocking the party in Ebonyi was permanently resolved.

He said that the ratification of the the Federal High Court’s judgement that nullified the ward, local government and state congresses of the party in Ebonyi was a clear indication of the party’s strong belief in the rule of law and party internal democracy.

The party chieftain also applauded the replacement of Chief Ali Odefa, the sacked South-East National Vice Chairman of PDP with Chief Chidiebere Egwu.

Igwe who echoed the feelings of other stakeholders of the party in Ebonyi said that the two landmark decisions had brought to an end the leadership standoff that had plagued the party after the 2023 general election.

He called on party supporters, faithful and democracy-loving people of Ebonyi to remain steadfast and unwavering in their support for PDP stressing that the party has repositioned to wrest power from the ruling All Progressives Party (APC) in the next general election.

“The South-East stakeholders and PDP NWC meeting held on January 28 at the Wadata House has put an end to the crisis rocking the party in Ebonyi.

“I have to commend leaders and elders of our party for standing by the truth and remaining committed to the ideals of the founding fathers of our great party.

“The peaceful resolution of the Ebonyi crisis has shown that PDP is a party that believes in the rule of law and internal party democracy,” Igwe said.

Igwe paid tribute to Chief Ifeanyichukwuma Odii (Anyichuks), the gubernatorial candidate of the party in the 2023 general election in Ebonyi for his commitment to deepening democratic governance in Ebonyi.

“I want to commend the leader of our great party, Chief Ifeanyichukwuma Odii for his role in ensuring that the crisis in the party in Ebonyi was peacefully resolved as well as his contribution in promoting democracy and democratic principles in Ebonyi and South-East zone,” he added.

Recall that the South-East PDP stakeholders in a meeting with the NWC of the party upheld the sack of the former national vice chairman, South-East, Chief Ali Odefa and replaced him with Chief Chidiebere Egwu.
