Edo govt announces transition operation from NERC to ESERC

The groundbreaking agreement between the Edo State Government and the National Electricity and Regulatory Commission (NERC) for the transition of operational rights to the state Electricity Regulatory Commission (ESERC), was recently held in Benin City.

The state Commissioner for Mining and Energy, Hon Enaholo Ojiefoh, who represented the state government at the event expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the opportunity given to the state for the smooth transition between the stakeholders.

Ojiefoh, who stressed the significance of the taking over from NERC by ESERC stated that series of public outcry and complaints about the constant blackout in Edo necessitated the demand for transition in order to manage, supply uninterrupted electricity to the people

He informed that during the period of transition, BDEC is required to incorporate the newly state subsidiary company within two month of being notified from the commission.

According to Ojiefoh, the state commission would manage, and be responsible for the supply of electricity and others in the state.

The lead consultant to the Nigeria governor’s Forum (NGF), Mr. Odion Omofomwan, commended the efforts of the state government and NERC in achieving the milestone agreement.

He explained that the signing of the operational licence was done in order to increase the capability of enhancing a major boost in electricity supply to the state that would in turn increase micro, small and medium scale businesses .

He lauded the Edo state government’s quest to improve her capacity building, maintaining high standard and sustainability, result-oriented investments in the power sector on grid and off grid power generation.
