The family of the late Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, the designer of Nigeria’s National Flag, has lauded the Federal Government for its N30 million support presented to them.

The N30 million cheque was presented by the Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, at the family’s Elelu residence in Ido Local Government Area.

In a statement signed by the deceased’s son, Engr. Akinkunmi Akinwumi, the family expressed their gratitude to the Federal Government for fulfilling its promise and honoring the memory of their patriarch.

They also acknowledged the Oyo State Government for providing Pa Akinkunmi with a befitting burial.

The statement read: “We appreciate the thoughtfulness of the Federal Government of Nigeria for not reneging on its promise to honor the memory of our patriarch, despite the fact that the Oyo State Government had earlier given our father, a National Icon, a befitting burial.”

The family also commended the dedication of the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alh. Idris Mohammed, the Director General of NOA, Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, and the Oyo State Director of NOA, Dr. Olukemi Afolayan, for their support and commitment to the family.

In addition, the family appealed to the government for the prompt immortalization of Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, as proposed in the upper chamber by Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, and supported by Senators Abdulfatah Buhari and Yunus Akintunde.

They also welcomed the idea of the deceased’s children being employed by the government, which they believe would inspire patriotism in Nigerians and serve as a lesson to younger generations about the importance of serving their country.

“We express our heartfelt appreciation for this timely and thoughtful support. It truly reflects the government’s commitment to honoring the legacy of our late father and ensuring the well-being of his family,” the statement concluded.
