The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, has apprehended six suspected vandals of public infrastructure during end-of-year special operations.
Acting Public Relations Officer of the Command, Monica Ojobi, stated on Tuesday in Abuja that the suspects were arrested at different locations across the FCT.
According to the statement, the arrests were made by the Command’s operatives on routine patrol during the yuletide celebrations to ensure the security of lives and the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure.
One of the vandals, Salihu Mohammed, a 27-year-old male from Jama Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was arrested at Life Camp, Kado, while vandalizing armored cables.
Mohammed Gadahfi, a 28-year-old male from Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, was arrested at the Yar’Adua Expressway along Airport Road while vandalizing solar panel poles and FCMB billboard poles.
Musa Ibrahim, an 18-year-old male from Dala Local Government Area of Kano State, was also arrested at the Yar’Adua Expressway along Airport Road in possession of vandalized El Rufai bus body parts.
Other suspects include Suleiman Yusuf, 21, Ibrahim Mudassir, 27, and Kabiru Sani, 22, all from Zamfara State. The trio were apprehended with various exhibits, including pieces of streetlight poles, streetlight bulbs, a halogen security light, streetlight pole bases, perimeter fencing iron hooks, a cut steel bar, shovels, pliers, spanners, screwdrivers, and other items such as an identity card, passport photographs, earpiece, lighter, rings, and N13,200 in cash.

Parading the suspects at the Command headquarters in Abuja, the FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, PhD, expressed satisfaction with the dedication and commitment of his personnel in consistently actualizing the Corps’ mandate.
He reiterated the Command’s resolve to flush out vandals and miscreants at all costs and warned vandals to desist from their acts of sabotage against FCT infrastructure or face the full wrath of the law.
“My officers and men have displayed gallantry and commitment to the enforcement of law and order in the FCT and its environs during the festive period.
“It is unfortunate that these nefarious elements are sabotaging the social amenities provided for the people of the FCT by the government.
“But we assure you that we shall not rest on our oars but continue to maintain our resolve to protect critical infrastructure while at the same time arresting these criminals,” Odumosu said.
The Commandant informed that the arrested vandals are currently undergoing investigation and will be prosecuted according to the provisions of the law.
He urged residents of the FCT to assist the Corps with relevant information to help in the fight against vandalism and other crimes in the FCT.
